Painting Description

This is a painting called Three Mothers or Tres Madres. It is inspired from a supposed Candomble story that took place between a few plantations in Brazil. It is still a work-in-progress but was started in 2001.

  1. The women represented racial mixing and were also considered witches only because their cultural practices were looked down upon in ignorance. Those who did not understand healing with the earth and rememberance of ancestors and practicing ceremonies. The women were said to have freed an area of Brazil from slavery by seducing their masters and overcoming the atrocities with good old loving.
